About the Event

Fire is mesmerizing, flickering, ever-changing, but what’s below this fascinating visible yet incorporeal dance?

Without the energy from metabolism — an invisible form of fire — we can’t do anything. Fire is life, without the energy of fire we would be inanimate blocks of goo.

We try so hard to nurture and shelter the flame of a candle, that sometimes we forget that the flame of the sun does not need protection. It fuels itself. The fission-fusion combination is self-rejuvenating, self-energizing. When we channel this cosmic fire, in ritual or meditation, we are reminding our bodies that we too can fuel ourselves. When we take care of our bodies by nourishing them with the right pattern of time and ingredients, we reinforce and honor our self-rejuvenation, we are fueling our inner fire.

It can be easy to fall into the trap of fire as a destructive force, which it can be when it is uncontrolled. But burning a forest cleanses it of harmful overgrowth and makes space for new life. It is the phoenix rising from the ashes. No matter how much of your life you destroy in a metaphorical fire, you can channel your inner phoenix and rise from the ashes, growing into the spaces you’ve cleared of toxic choking expectations/judgements/people/things.

For hundreds of thousands of years, our ancestors gazed at fire every single night, sometimes for hours, while preparing to sleep. Gazing at fire is mesmerizing and trance inducing. When we gaze at a flickering flame, our brain begins to shift out of beta brainwave state, which is associated with thinking and alertness, into alpha brainwave state, which corresponds to a relaxed and creative state of mind. Alpha brainwaves then become theta brainwaves, which are associated with meditation, intuition, and the unconscious. When we shift out of our beta/monkey-mind activity and into alpha and theta, the mind becomes relaxed, open, and receptive.
